On the theory of military logistics

Andreas Alexa/Christian Schorn

Since theories are the foundation of all scientific research and set rules for action, it is necessary to analyze and derive derivatives of recognized scientific theories, on the applicability of military logistics. In addition to military strategy, operation, tactics and general military leadership, military logistics (= military logistics) and military maintenance (= deployment logistics), which are collectively referred to as logistics in the Defense Department, is an essential part of the scientific discipline of military science. Deployment logistics is a senior role in the two development lines, including equipment and infrastructure, as a result of the allocation of material and infrastructural logistics support in the Defence Department. The characteristic and thus essence of military logistics is the design and continuous optimization of logistic structures, systems and processes through military logistics management, which serve the internal, external and cross-service production of forces. Thus, military logistics management plans, controls the efficient and effective use of logistic services (= logistic processes), which are carried out by logistical forces, within a logistical system. This serves to meet all the logistical needs of armed forces. For example, for the logistical function of material management, this means a forward and backward flow of transformation objects (supply goods), including the necessary information between nodes (logistical facilities and areas) and edges (logistic connecting lines).

The essential effect of military logistics is the production and maintenance of the survivability, operational capacity and durability of armed forces in operations or the guarantee of an efficient standard service. In other words, the purpose of all military logistics measures is to avoid logistical culmination. After all, once this has occurred, the force's readiness for action and performance decreases. From a scientific perspective for military logistics, this results in the object of knowledge of the analysis and interpretation of logistics tasks at the management and implementation level, which cause the flow of transformation objects or subjects, such as supplies, energy or living beings, and the associated flow of money and information in logistic networks by logistical forces. This is investigated using (military) scientific methods in order to gain insights into the further development of scientific discipline. In addition to delivery logistics, military logistics is an essential part of the subdiscipline of military logistics and military maintenance of military science. Since theories are an essential foundation of any scientific activity, dealing with them is an absolute necessity for scientists. It has been shown that system-theoretical, network-theoretical and organizational-theoretical foundations can be transformed into the field of military logistics. These thus constitute a solid basis for scientific theory, which also follows the principle that the theory should proceed in practice. System theory can be described as a foundation on which the other theories cited can be based. Starting from the military logistics system, which describes the relationships between the system elements in a rather abstract way, a logistic network is created by the definition of participating elements. This, in turn, is only realized by a corresponding structure or process organization.
